Working with a reference photograph as my guide, first I draw in pencil the outlines of the essential elements in the composition on my canvas board, like people, buildings, and landscape formations.

With every project, I always begin with the background and sky and cut each selected color out and arrange it in a rough layout on the board.  Before gluing, my scissors trim and sculpt each paper edge to smooth transitions and some pieces are moved or removed.  Layer by layer the scene is built and my studio table fills up with a kaleidoscope of paper pieces waiting to find their place in the artwork.
